I grew up in a farm family of 10, and started sewing in the second grade. As I was growing up, my mother repeated the same slogan every night after dinner: “You either get busy doing dishes, or get busy being productive.” That was my cue to make a bee-line to the sewing machine and get productive. I guess sewing has always been my way to avoid the dishes (and my husband would say that hasn’t really changed).
After all these years, I am still at the sewing machine after dinner, sewing late into the night, and blessed to make a living doing what I love. I have sewed and crafted for boutiques and for friends for as long as I can remember. I worked for Hancock Fabrics for 21 years, and served as their head educator. Now I run my own sewing and quilting business.
Much like a quilt, I pieced together many professional roles and individual passions and particular skills into one business.
- Teach sewing classes for beginners and advanced clients.
- Create quilts, including T-shirt quilts, memory quilts, and more.
- Long-arm quilt for customers around the world.
- Coordinate and teach sewing retreats across the country.
Whether you are looking for an excuse to avoid doing dishes, or to practice a hobby that you love, or to develop a quilting business of your own, I hope you find help and inspiration here.
